In an effort to incorporate the emerging field of E-Learning/Distance Learning to advance implementation science in icddr,b the Technical Training Unit organised a seminar on 21 May in icddr,b. The keynote speaker was Dr. Badrul Huda Khan who has twenty years of experience in developing and managing distance education programmes world- wide. The aim of the seminar was twofold: to share the key aspects of E-Learning/Distance Learning strategy development with the participants, and to get their views to implement an initiative funded by the USAID supported Translating Research into Action (TRAction) Bangladesh Project.

During his presenta- tion Dr. Khan provided a broad understanding of the up-and-coming field of e-learning and the factors that are critical to successful learning in the E-learning environment. The participants were able to gain a better understanding of the eight critical dimensions of distance learning environments including institutional, management, technological, pedagogical, ethical consideration, interface design, resource support, and evaluation. The introduction of E-Learning/ Distance Learning at icddr,b will have a remarkable impact on the way training  is provided as well as widening the  scope of external participants to the training programmes.
